Meet the New Mexican BIPOC Advocacy Fellows

Veronica Toledo (Dine) and Povi Martinez (San Ildefonso Pueblo) will be working on an advocacy concept called “Decolonize Our Future,” a virtually interactive social media campaign for Indigenous community members to share stories and raise awareness about the climate crisis in the southwestern region. This campaign will serve as a virtual call to action that invites members to photograph themselves holding handmade signs in their homelands. The homemade signs should display authentic societal opinions that express climate consciousness and environmental issues that Indigenous peoples face and the changes they want to see in their communities. Participants should post on social media using the hashtag #decolonizeourfuture and #applypressure. This campaign will help raise awareness through storytelling and will help to inspire others to learn about the injustices people face while working to protect Mother Earth.
